X-Men: Days of Future Past
While this movie begins in the dystopian future of 2023, it quickly moves to 1973, back with the cast ofFirst Classwith the addition of Wolverine’s time travel. The plot of this movie revolves around stopping Mystique from assassinating the inventor of the mutated killing machines called Sentinels. While this does have an impact on the timeline, it makes more sense for this to come second,due to the massive time jump at the beginning of the movie.
X-Men Apocalypse

DeadPool

The plot ofThe Last Standcan feel very similar at times toDark Phoenix, with Jean Gray eventually losing control of her powers, which makes sense given they’re both from the Dark Phoenix Saga in the comics. The main difference, however, is that this movie revolves around a civil war between mutants after a vaccine was developed that reverses the effects of gene X. The New Mutants
The latestX-Menmovie to release and the first after Disney’s acquisition of Fox,The New Mutantsis hard to place on the timeline. With a new cast of mutants starring, there are few direct links to the original.X Menseries, but thanks to the film’s writer Josh Boone, it takes place in the timeline of the original movies before Wolverine ventured back in time on the road.Days of Future Past.
